Our Facilities
Nestled in the cool highlands of Nanu Oya, the Hayleys Agro Biotech Limited Laboratory is a pioneering center for advanced tissue culture and plant biotechnology. Originally established as a G0 seed potato facility, its location offers the perfect climate for plant propagation and innovation, ensuring the production of high-quality, disease-free plantlets.Since its inception, the facility has expanded its scope, achieving several milestones, including being one of the only two labs in Sri Lanka accredited to ship to Australia. The lab has worked with prominent customers like RAM Botanicals, with its first shipment dating back to 2008, and continues to handle 100% Australian mother plants. Our focus on contract propagation allows us to cater to diverse markets such as South Africa, the USA, and Kenya, with products ranging from cut flowers to tropical foliage.
Our Capacity
At Hayleys Agro Biotech, we are proud to operate one of Sri Lanka’s most advanced tissue culture facilities. With a capacity to manage over 1.8 million plants, we ensure optimal growth conditions and exceptional quality standards, supported by cutting-edge equipment and a dedicated workforce.
Transfer Rooms
Our transfer rooms are designed to meet 100% sterile conditions, enabling precise handling of tissue culture plants. Equipped with advanced laminar flow systems and 52 workstations, we ensure efficient production while maintaining rigorous hygiene protocols.
Growth Rooms
The growth rooms at our facility are a hub of innovation. With controlled light and temperature systems, plants receive 16 hours of optimal light daily. This environment supports plant growth for five weeks before multiplication, showcasing our commitment to quality propagation.
Media Facility
Our state-of-the-art media preparation facility produces 400–500 liters of customized media daily. With over 200 unique formulations, our facility ensures plants receive tailored nutrients for robust growth, guaranteeing superior quality outputs.
Dispatch Room
We adhere to strict aseptic conditions to prepare tissue culture plants for dispatch. Carefully packed in special cellophane, our plants are ready for delivery within a week, ensuring freshness and quality during transit.
Plant Nurseries
Our plant nurseries are vibrant hubs of growth, nurturing healthy plants that meet international standards. From tropical foliage to specialized crops, our nurseries symbolize the pinnacle of agricultural innovation.
Employees
Our dedicated team of 120 staff, predominantly women from local communities, is the backbone of our operations. Their expertise and meticulous care ensure every plant meets global quality standards, contributing to our continued success.
Hayleys Agro Biotech (Pvt) Ltd is the largest tissue cultured plant producer in Sri Lanka with a capacity of 15 million plants per annum. Every year, we sell around 3–4 million plants all over the world. The daily average media production is 400 l and a 3 day requirement can be stored in the storeroom. Hayleys has three growth rooms where the maximum plant storage is 1.4 million. In the dispatch room, there is a large HEPA filter cabinet, which is utilized for plant packing at a rate of 25,000 plants per day.
